Job Description for Part-Time Youth Minister
Maximum 16-18 hours a week; pay scale $11 - $14 an hour (both negotiable)
The Coordinator of youth ministry focuses the Parish Ministry with adolescents on three essential goals:
1) empowering young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today;
2) drawing young people to responsible participation in the life, mission and work of the faith community;
3) fostering the personal and spiritual growth of each young person. (Renewing The vision: A Framework for Catholic Youth Ministry)
Expectations/Requirements
Be an active practicing Roman Catholic and active in parish community
Be at least 21 years old
Communicate and interact effectively, respectfully and appropriately with youth
Able to set and carry our expectations of proper behavior
Communicate effectively with parents and other adults
Work under the direction of the pastor. Be an ex-officio member of the Formation Committee.
Collaborate well with other staff and parish organizations
Have good organization and planning skills
Meet Diocesan employment requirements
Tasks
(Catechetical Activities)
Assist the pastor in planning a comprehensive youth ministry that articulates and pursues both long and short term goals
Provide weekly catechesis/faith formation programming
Teach confirmation/sacramental preparation classes. (negotiable)
Plan yearly calendar of events and programs, including but not limited to catechetical formation; service projects; leadership development, in coordination with the Diocesan office of youth ministry; community development (social activities)
Coordinate with pastor and parish committees to integrate youth into areas of service in and around the parish
Communicate regularly with families to keep them informed of all available youth programs

Coordinate fund activities to engage youth both in and outside of the parish.
Search out methods of communication that are relevant to youth
Investigate opportunities for youth events and ministries inside and outside of the parish
Communicate regularly with families to keep them informed of ministry events
Be able to work with the diverse range of people and personalities that make up a parish.
